Job Abundance Mindset

There will always be auditions. After a bad audition, or an audition you killed but didn't book, your feet will always find the floor. There will always be ways to be creative. There will always be opportunities.

It is human nature to live in scarcity. That you have to achieve it all while it lasts. But if we live in abundance of opportunities, abundance of art, abundance of connection, and abundance of yes, we can be at peace with imperfection. We can be at peace with the days when we aren't quite killin' it. When we are sick, and have to miss an audition. When we worked late 5 days in a row to make rent, and then need to sleep a little longer the next morning instead of being first in line We can still have compassion with ourselves. We are human, and when we are able to let go of scarcity, perfection, and "missing" some things, we can be at peace. There is always more.

Don't the Rio Olympics seem a million years ago now? Where did the Summer go?!? Of course, now we get crisp air and pumpkin baked goods (pretty sure I left some canned pumpkin at Trader Joes for everyone else:p).

Gearing Up

My friends, my friends!!!!!!!

It's summer and it's crazy steamy outside. Thank the goodness for window A.C.s. I can hibernate in my own personal ice box while re-watching season 1 of Game of Thrones because now I'm in Jon Snow and Arya withdrawal. This past season was GOLD. (kickass women, amiright?)

Another Friday is upon us! This week was filled with a couple EPAs, a Mediterranean brunch date at the delicious OLEA, CAP21ing, and Tempest reading to prep for a big project next week. This weekend, bf and I have plans to visit Storm King, which is an outdoor sculpture garden an hour north of NYC that just reopened this week. We are planning on bringing a little picnic and just soak up the scenery. What are your weekend plans?

The World of Straight Plays- Audition Journal 4.4.16

Monday morning in NYC today was raaaiiiiinAY, as in the best type of morning to stay warm under the covers and snooze, especially because I have not been sleeping as much I know my body needs (ahem, 9 hours. For real, I've always needed a ton of sleep, evidenced by my self-imposed childhood bedtime of 8pm).

I often spend time gazing lovingly on my moleskine calendar. I highlight my auditions and appointments in pink and my work shifts in yellow. On the left side I have my schedule and on the right side I have all the of the reagonal theatre's seasons of that week written out, plus random lists, quotes, etc. Basically, my planner is a mess of pink, yellow and pencil doodles, with lots of things boxed, circled, checked, and starred. It looks insane, but I think it is beautiful and I love laying it open and just staring at it.

A PSA

This cold that I have been enjoying has knocked me out for the week. The only real world tasks I've able to to do is work at cap21 a couple days and hoarsely tell people to stay 4 feet away from my desk. Auditions have not happened. I've opted to sleep, recover and plus, I have no singing voice at the moment, which is, like, a big part of the audition, sooooooooo.

End of a Short and Mighty Month

Well, February went by in a bit a blur, didn't it??! This month was packed with EPAs and ECCs. I made it to 17 in total. Plus a baby trip to Baltimore, MD to audish for Folger Theatre and visit family, three visits to the Broadway (Fun Home, School of Rock, and Hamilton ahhh!), two bouts of sickness, and of course a lot of shifts at CAP21, with some classes and exercise in between.

Friday Link Lovin'

We had another snow day here in NYC, but luckily nothing too crazy. Just enough to brighten the streets and make everything just a bit quieter and lovely. I spent this snowy afternoon with my bf having the most delicious brunch in BK at The Farm (read: mimosas, bacon and french fries). How are you spending your Friday?

Rainy NYC Days

It was a very rainy day here in NYC, which of course makes everything just a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit harder, because all of a sudden precious hand-real-estate is being taken over by an umbrella, you have to frogger the shit out of some puddles and hydroplaning taxis, and your meticulously coiffed hair for your CATS ON BROADWAY AUDITION is melting. Because of this, it was very lucky that I only had one EPA today, the aforementioned CATS revival.

Countrywo/men!

I am freshly returned from Sarasota, Florida where I played Pauline in FST's One Man Two Guvnors. It was a wonderful, fulfilling experience (more on that later, plus... Harry Potter World pilgrimage! ah!), but my head is so full right now with settling back into the city and back to getting after some auditions, picking up shifts at CAP21, and gazing lovingly on all those beautiful faces I haven't seen in 2 and a halfish months.

It's the WEEKEND!

Of course, I identify more with the dowager wondering…”what is a weekEND?”

Actors don’t really get weekends as we typically relegate our day jobs to weekends, so weekDAYS are more free for auditioning.

Night at the Theatre

I have been absolutely killing it with the new Broadway season this year. I remember when I was at NYU freshman year and I felt this constant itch to see shows. I would get up at 5am on the weekends to stand in line with my friends for cheap student rush tickets (that were partial view or in the nosebleeds)- those were the days of Spring Awakening and Next to Normal, and August: Osage County. Everything was so exciting.

A Love Letter to FAT

A Love Letter to FAT

As I sit at work contemplating lunch, I reminisce about my lovely, paleo, 7am breakfast this morning, where I greeted Daylight Savings Time with a pastured three egg omelet (with all the yolks), stuffed with Kale, prosciutto, avocado, and Herb de Provence (-->one of my fave seasoning blends). I also enjoyed two cups of french pressed coffee with a couple scoops of full fat coconut milk. So that's quite a bit of fat: 3 egg yolks, coconut milk, avocado.

Fat doesn’t make you fat, yo. ((pssst, the real culprit is SUGAR).

5 Tips for Packing a Badass Paleo Lunch

As a real food practitioner and broke actress, I pack my food every single day when I go out. It’s become a daily habit. In fact, I think I’m completely incapable of leaving my house without packing SOMETHING, even if I know I’m going out with friends.

So, as an expert packer, I bring you some tips in case you need some motivation to pack your own food bag.

Behind the desk

Starting off 2015 has included a cavalcade of Equity Auditions, a shton of coffee, a lot of slinging weights, a lot a lot a LOT of eating bananas and almond butter and chocolate and WINE, a good dose of sprinting for sprints sake (have YOU ever ran as fast as you can go for 30 seconds, walked it off, and then sprinted again until your pooped? It is thrilling and I highly recommend it.), singing and learning music, and reading and netflix.
